“I Ask Leave to Go”

Sung this Tuesday, at a funeral.

1- I ask leave to go, oh, brothers, sisters–there can be no return–

oh, to leave intimates, to leave blood kindred, oh, my beloved, we who have joined in such dear fellowship.

2- I ask leave to go–oh, precious beloved, be eased of grief and sorrow.

I charge you, oh, strive, you who ache with sympathy, oh, dear heart, walk in the road of God.

3- I take leave of the world, oh, brothers, sisters, of things that change,

take leave of body, of all possessions utterly, of coin, of gold that men desire.

4- I go to God, oh, my brothers, sisters, to Paradise.

We will, oh, we will meet each other, oh, brothers and sisters, when God comes.

  1. Love it! It’s interesting to hear other cultures’ application of Bible truths to their circumstances. Thank you.
